RASIO UREA-METANOL DALAM PROSES METANOLISIS UREA SECARA VISUAL

Abstract


A correction towards the mol ratio of urea-metanol as a reactant in the production of dimethyl carbonate (DMC) has been done. Dimethyl carbonate is a basic material of toluene diisocyanate propellant hardener of the LAPAN RPS 420 rocket fuel. According to the literature, the mol ratio of urea-methanol for production of DMC was 1 : 4. However, observations in a variety of experiments indicate that the ratio is over the saturated solubility of urea in methanol that make the DMC product is not optimum. Based on some teoretical calculation, it was obtained that minimum urea-methanol mol ratio was 1 : 9. Application from this result of calculation shows that, ratio 1:9 is better than ratio 1:4. This is observed in the completely solution of urea into methanol.
