Abstract

Lampung province has a quite big territory that needs an appropriate technology to map its natural resources especially its up to date land cover condition information. This assessment performs a special land cover observation for southern part of Lampung province, consist of Tanggamus, West Lampung and South Lampung Regencies, Pesawaran, Bandar Lampung and Metro cities. The data used in this activity are 16 scenes of 2010 acquired SPOT-4 imageries, ortho INCAS Landsat scene as the geometrics reference, SRTM DEM and BAKOSURTANAL Land Cover Map of 2005. The methodology in geometric correction used in this research is LAPAN two steps method; ‘true colour’ bands composite, normalized histogram colour enhancement, and visual on screen classification. In this research, the land cover is divided into 12 classes, measured their areas and percentages. The results are forest 263.015,549 Ha (21,56%), mixed garden 187.738,064 Ha (15,39%), dry crop farm area 303.473,43 Ha (24,88%), open/bar land 2.718,745 Ha (0,22%), mangrove 1.410,313Ha (0,12%), plantation 39.923,356Ha (3,27%), residencies 75.970,403 Ha (6,23%), swampy area 27.310,852 Ha (2,24%), paddy field 108.828,733 Ha (8,92%), bush 197.571,805 Ha (16,20%), fish/shrimp ponds 6.753,221 Ha (0,55%) and water body 5.175,83Ha (0,42%).
