STUDI PERBANDINGAN DISTRIBUSI INDEKS K GEOMAGNET ANTARA STASIUN BIAK DENGAN MAGNETOMETER DIGITAL DAN STASIUN TANGERANG DENGAN MAGNETOMETER ANALOG

Abstract

There are two known K index calculation methods based on type of magnetometer used, i.e. computerized method such as in Biak station that uses digital magnetometer and hand scale method such as in Tangerang station that uses analog magnetometer. In this paper we compare the K index distribution between Biak and Tangerang stations using the data during 1993-1998. We obtained that K index distribution for K smaller than 2 value more dominant in Biak station than in Tangerang station. Otherwise, for K bigger than 2 it is more dominant in Tangerang station than in Biak station. Furthermore, in general the K index amplitude in Tangerang station is more higher than that in Biak station. From this result, we conclude that the difference between K index distribution pattern in Biak and Tangerang stations is due to the difference of method used in the K index calculation.
