SPACE CONTRIBUTION FOR DISASTER MANAGEMENT: LEGAL FRAMEWORK

Abstract

Taking into account the catastrophic impact of major disasters in the last few years, there is a need to develop a better response and disater management both at domestic, natioanl regional and global level through effective coordination mechanism. The paper is aimed at exploring ways and means to formulate and implement effective legal framework for disater management and mitigation efforts by utilizing space technology and organizations. The legal framework fordisaster management and mitigation would cover: past and current initiatives; existing international institutions dealing with disater management; international legal instrument; and by establishing coordinating body on international space cooperation and disaster management.
