KAJIAN DINAMIKA SUHU PERMUKAAN LAUT GLOBAL MENGGUNAKAN DATA PENGINDERAAN JAUH MICROWAVE
Abstract
Researches of Sea Surface Temperatur (SST) in LAPAN so far have been carried out by using remote sensing data such as NOAA/AVHRR and MODIS from thermal infra red sensor. The application of thermal infra red remote sensing satellite data is often limited by cloud coverage, that makes it difficult to take the SST and conduct the upwelling observation in Indonesian Waters. Recently, the SST data from microwave sensor is available, so it can show the SST distribution periodically and is not constrained by the cloud coverage. So far, it is assumed that the low SST as one of the primary parameters of the upwelling occurs in the southern coast of Java, southern Makassar Strait, the Flores Sea around southeast Sulawesi. The analysis of SST and upwelling was carried out based on the weekly microwave SST in 2008. The result shows that based on the SST distribution, the upwelling is started from the 3rd week of May until August, with the temperature 23(degree)C - 24(degree)C, and reach its maximum on the 4th of July.
